"Review and Planning Workshop on Eco Town" in Penang, Malaysia
- Sharing information and experiences on Eco-town formulation, and promoting the Eco-town concept to Asian countries-


In collaboration with UNEP IETC, GEC organized “Review and Planning Workshop on Eco Town” from 11th to 13th December 2012 in Penang, Malaysia. The workshop attracted approximately 140 participants involved in Eco town project activities, including 17 foreign participants from Cambodia, Indonesia, Pakistan, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Sri Lanka and Singapore. Penang is a successful showcase in phase 1 of Eco town programme by UNEP IETC. During the three-day workshop, a wide range of leading Eco town activities were introduced to the participants through presentations and field visits. In addition, information on current recycling, waste management and Eco town planning in other Asian cities were presented and active discussions on how to realize future Eco town were held among the participants in order to facilitate the concept and to realize Eco town in Asian countries in Phase 2 programme from 2013 to 2016.
