Grassroots Project for Environmental Protection in Ha Long Bay Area, Vietnam (2009-2012)
Activity 4: Environmental leadership training for core leaders of the counterpart organizations
To increase awareness and understanding on environment protection, training courses were organized once in Vietnam and twice in Japan.
The training in Vietnam consisted of lectures on water environment, waste management and environmental education, as well as sit visits to waste sorting and reduction initiatives in Ha Long and Hanoi.
The training courses in Japan consisted of lectures and site visits about environment protection efforts of Japanese local governments and private companies, as well as case studies of community-based environment protection activities. Emphasis was placed on explaining how Japanese local governments, the private sector and citizens collaborate on environmental activities, how NPOs and citizen groups operate activities and securing funding, and how governments and citizen groups publicize and raise awareness on the importance of the environment.
