Grassroots Project for Environmental Protection in Ha Long Bay Area, Vietnam (2009-2012)

Ha Long Bay is situated in the northwest of the Gulf of Tonkin to the north of Viet Nam. One of the world's most visually stunning locations, it was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1994 but there were concerns about pollution and degradation of the environment related to human activities.

Global Environment Centre and Osaka Prefecture University implemented a grassroots technical cooperation project in Ha Long Bay area in Vietnam for 3 years from October 2009 to September 2012, with financial assistance from JICA under the scheme of JICA's partnership program. The project's activities aim to raise environmental awareness of the residents of floating villages and owners of tourist boats and to reduce the load of emissions into Ha Long Bay from floating villages and tour boats.
